On 20 September, Bishop Jan Hendriks of Haarlem-Amsterdam will celebrate Mass at St Agnes Church in Amsterdam for the 20th anniversary of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter’s presence there. On September 16, three Vatican Dicasteries - Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, and Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue - published the document The Path of Hope: A Note on the 60th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate. Leo XIV. approved the text on June 22. Religions may become expressions of God's will §58 contains perhaps the document’s most troubling claim: The “religions are called to transform the world and society so that they may become fraternal expressions of God’s will”. Leo XIV has named the homosexual activist Michael Saporito, 64, Bishop of Metuchen, New Jersey (September 15). Monsignor Saporito, 64, is currently auxiliary bishop of Newark. He criticizes liturgies centered on creativity, community and local culture rather than the sacrifice and adoration. Leo XIV Approves Maronite Archbishop of Damascus Today, Pope Leo XIV has approved the election of Sharbel Ghattas Maroun as the new Maronite Catholic archbishop of Damascus. A Lebanese-born priest, he has spent much of his ministry in the United States. Archbishop Maroun, 64, was elected by the Synod of Bishops of the Maronite Church. He succeeds Archbishop Samir Nassar, 76, whose resignation was accepted by the synod.
