Fr Martin believes that "sexual orientation" alone should not stop a man from being ordained. He points to Pope Francis, who said there are already many "holy, healthy and celibate" homosexual priests. However, in 2005 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger concluded that men with deep-seated homosexual temptations should not enter the seminary because they lack the emotional maturity needed for lifelong celibacy.
