The United American Muslim Association (UAMA) purchased the building for $5.2 million. The 6,500-square-metre centre, founded in 1926 by the Montfort Missionaries, was used to train priests before later serving as a retreat house. Pending approval of a zoning change, the new owners intend to establish an Islamic boarding school for up to 120 boys. According to its website, UAMA aims to provide an education in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah. Marko Ivan Rupnik after the Holy See denied reports that the judges had reached a decision. Peruvian priest Ricardo Yesquén Paiva has died at the age of 59 without ever facing a canonical or civil investigation into allegations that he sexually abused a 10-year-old girl in 2006. There remain those who claim one can be fully pro-life and authentically Catholic while remaining entirely detached from the political sphere. That position cannot be sustained. The defense of human life from conception is a public responsibility as well as a private conviction. When the law and the culture fail to safeguard the weakest, Catholics are not free to withdraw.
